Black Women Film! Canada

Black Women Film! Canada is a renowned not-for-profit and leadership initiative founded in 2016 by Ella Cooper alongside 40 Black women filmmakers with support from TIFF, CBC, the Nia Centre for the Arts, and the NFB.
BWF is dedicated to forwarding the careers, networks, and skills of filmmakers and media artists who are Black women identified in Canada.
Based in Toronto, Black Women Film provides an intensive annual leadership program, unique hands-on industry master classes, a Black Girls Film camp, an industry directory, and ongoing networking opportunities for its growing community of emerging and established Black women filmmakers across Canada.
Our work is transformational, motivational, and dedicated to providing a community for Black women content creators that will help change the future of our dominant visual culture and support Black women in taking leadership roles across all aspects of the industry.
Since 2016, Black Women Film! Canada has been at the forefront of programming and leadership development. We are dedicated to cultivating the success of Black women filmmakers and content creators Canada-wide. Our work has proven to be transformational, motivational, and dedicated to providing a high level of professional support that is helping to shift the landscape of our dominant media culture toward supporting Black women in taking on diverse leadership roles across all aspects of the film industry.
